Energy management

Efficient energy management is essential for industrial stakeholders. With a proper energy management system, it is possible to reduce costs and comply with environmental directives. The standards ISO 50001 and EN 16247-1/2/3/4: 2012 define the energy efficiency measures that companies should take to reduce energy consumption.

One of our fastest growing business areas is the installation of energy management systems. The DMG instruments that we supply are suitable for measuring the parameters required by the MEKH regulation and are outstanding on the market in terms of price-performance ratio. The instruments are selected and installed on the equipment to be measured according to the individual requirements of our customers. The measured data can be monitored on demand using Synergy software and local server and cloud-based data storage is also possible. This data is available at any time to you and your selected users on PC, tablet or even mobile phone.

New MEKH regulation on sub-meters:

The MEKH regulation on sub-meters entered into force on 1 January 2021. It obliges economic operators to provide individual sub-meters for consumers with a certain power output. The obligation to install sub-metering is imposed by the EU to ensure that all metering installations are compliant with the new legislation. KRL is a partner in the implementation of the sub-metering system covered by the regulation to ensure our customers comply with the regulations, and our energy management system also assists energy specialists.

We have summarised the key points:

  • (1) Sub-metering is required to be installed by the entity where electricity use cannot be determined based on installed capacity and operating time

    i) for stand-alone electrical installations with a rated output of more than 100 kW (in particular compressors, motors, pumps, other drives and process equipment),

ii) heat generating and air-conditioning installations with a rated electrical output exceeding 140 kW.

  • (2) The economic entity subject to the obligation to use an energy consultant shall install a sub-meter to monitor its electricity consumption where the maximum installed simultaneous power demand of the stand-alone electrical equipment, heating and air-conditioning systems, excluding the equipment for heating and air-conditioning, measured by the sub-meter referred to in paragraph 1, supplied via a single entry point and connected in a process sequence (in particular: machinery, production line, production hall or building) exceeds 200 kW.

  • (3) Exempted from the sub-metering obligation provided for in paragraph (1) are equipment whose operating time does not exceed an average of 2000 operating hours per year over the three years preceding the year under consideration.

(2) Section 3 shall enter into force on 1 January 2021.

(3) Section 7 shall enter into force on 1 January 2022.

7. § A 3. §

(a)(1)(a), the words "100 kW" are replaced by "50 kW",
