Design

Ask our specialists for help in selecting and sizing energy-saving equipment!

Our engineers will accurately and carefully select the most appropriate type of PFC device, designing its power level and grade allocation based on the type of the load. The planning is greatly assisted by the results collected by the measuring instrument and the quarterly consumption data and consumption bills sent by our customers.

Reduce your electricity consumption with KRL!

Design

Project design guide:

  1. Determine the required reactive power (kvar), select the amount of capacitors needed to achieve the desired cosφ.
  2. Design the capacitor stage assignment so that the minimum stage is around 10-15% of the total power. Very sensitive stage assignment (5-10%) is not advisable because it would lead to too much switching, which would unnecessarily load the equipment.
  3. Try to design the capacitor ratio so that it is a standard kvar value or multiples of it.
  4. Measure the harmonic content of the current (THDI) at the main supply point, without capacitors, at all operating conditions.
  5. Measure the voltage harmonic content (THDU).
  6. Of the resultant harmonics, is THDI > 20% or THDU > 3% (measured without capacitor)?
If yes, use a detuned PFC device.
If not, you can use a conventional PFC device, but check the other points as well.
  7. Is the 3rd current harmonic (I3)> 0.2*I5?
If yes, use a 14% detuned PFC device.
If not, use a 7% detuned PFC device.
  8. If the THDU:
3-5%, then use a 7% detuned PFC device.
5-10%, then use a 14% detuned PFC device.
    >10%, please contact us for sizing a special harmonic filter.
  9. Select the appropriate device from our catalogue depending on the reactive power, voltage, mains frequency and the predefined detuned factor.
